'Making friends’ with loss and learning to accept change is what grief is all about

It is preordained that every person born into this world will experience change and loss, known to us as grief, and when it involves death we call it bereavement. Grief is really all about the process of letting go what was dearly held, including all of our thoughts and feelings, that together make up our reaction to that loss, including shock, anger, denial, self-recrimination and despair.

The unwillingness to lose or feel the pain of change – whether it be a friend, an object, a country or a survival kit - can mean we keep ‘hanging on’ when that is no longer healthy.
